“My first painting was a reflection of clouds in a puddle! My mother had died. I took a year off work and started painting.
A few years later I finally retired and had the opportunity to pursue art. I had always thought doing art wasn’t as important as the work I was doing within the community sector, or the life I lived for 25 years or so in the country (after growing up in inner city Melbourne).
I wanted to live out my beliefs - care for the environment, build in mud brick and try my hand at farming. Always though, I continued to notice the light and colour of the landscape!
Once I retired, and began my life in Pt Willunga, I joined workshops with local artists and continued with my painting. I love being by the sea and near the hills, again noticing the changes of light and colour.
Over the years, I have mostly sketched or painted my local surroundings and tried a range of mediums - water colour, gouache, oil and acrylic. More recently I discovered the freedom of expression and joy of abstract painting!”
